What Caused The Event That Helped Shaped History
It all started on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor (a naval base in Hawaii). On the same day president Franklin D. Roosevelt called it "a date that will live in infamy." This bombing ended up sinking 19 ships and killing 2,335 servicemen. The next day, America and Britain declared war on Japan. In response, Germany declared war on the US, and this began what American history refers to as World War II. The battle continued for almost four more years, finally ending in late 1945; first with the defeat of Japan, followed shortly after by the defeat of Germany. Responders state that the dropping of the two atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were in retaliation for the attack on Pearl Harbor, it turned out to be incorrect. If the Japanese natives would have never bombed Pearl Harbor, the Japanese-Americans would have never had to gone through these holding camps. Also, all those soldiers and innocent people would have never lost their lives either.
The attack was initiated at 7:55 A.M. when the first bomb fell, and ended a couple of minutes before 10 A.M., which was two hours after the attack had first started. When the attack first started to happen, no one knew how to react. They were all astounded as they just sat there and watched as their base was blowing up around them. Lots of people saw the Japanese flags that were painted on the planes, but by the time they knew who
was attacking them, it was too late to react. There was a total of fourteen American pilots that were able to get in the air, but they only managed to shoot down eleven Japanese planes. This attack ended up killing not only the 2,340 soldiers and injuring 1,143 soldiers, but killing 48 innocent civilians and injuring 35 of them. The Pearl Harbor bombing was one of the most tragic days
ever in American history. It led to a lot of things that could have been avoided if the Japanese never ended up bombing Pearl Harbor. The Japanese-Americans would have been able to live those few years they were detained as a normal life, but they couldn't because the Japanese had to come and bomb us. Also, those innocent soldiers and civilians would have never lost their lives or been injured if it wasn't for this bombing. President Roosevelt really knew what he was saying when he said this was going to be "a date that will live in infamy."
